PEUGEOT is breaking new ground in the automotive industry by integrating ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence developed by OpenAI, into its latest generation of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Initially available to 5,000 customers, the pilot phase has been expanded to 10,000 due to overwhelming demand.

A Commitment to Innovation

PEUGEOT has always been at the forefront of automotive innovation, and the introduction of ChatGPT is a testament to its commitment to enhancing the customer experience. This cutting-edge technology, known for its sophisticated and concise responses, is now embedded within the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® infotainment system.

Seamless Integration with “OK PEUGEOT”

Activating the ChatGPT functionality is as simple as saying, “OK PEUGEOT.” This voice command initiates the onboard assistant, allowing users to make requests on virtually any subject. Whether asking for historical information about local landmarks or seeking navigation guidance, ChatGPT provides life-like responses that enhance the driving experience.

Versatile Functionality

ChatGPT’s capabilities extend beyond answering questions. For instance, it can entertain children during long journeys by organizing quizzes on various topics. This feature ensures a more enjoyable and less tedious travel experience for families.

Enhanced Customer Experience

The integration of ChatGPT is a key component of PEUGEOT’s E-LION project, aimed at making the voice assistant more interactive, fluid, and intuitive. By leveraging generative AI, PEUGEOT has significantly improved the functionality of its voice assistant system.

Availability Across Latest Models

The introduction of ChatGPT is a key component of PEUGEOT’s E-LION project, which focuses on enhancing the customer experience. By making the voice assistant more interactive, fluid, and intuitive, PEUGEOT aims to set a new standard for in-car technology.

ChatGPT is available in the i-Cockpit® of all the latest-generation PEUGEOT models equipped with connected navigation, including the new 208, 2008, 308, 308 SW, 408, new 508 & 508 SW, new E-3008, new E-RIFTER, new E-TRAVELLER, new E-PARTNER, new E-EXPERT, and soon the new E-5008. Customers with eligible models can activate ChatGPT via the PEUGEOT Service Store, with the pilot phase offering the system for free for 6 months.

Following the pilot phase, PEUGEOT will gather user feedback to refine the technology before deploying ChatGPT to all customers who own an eligible connected vehicle. During this initial phase, ChatGPT will be offered to PEUGEOT customers in their native language in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Pilot Phase and Future Deployment

PEUGEOT’s pilot phase offers ChatGPT for free for six months to eligible customers in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The initial cap of 5,000 customers has been doubled to 10,000 due to a subscription rate exceeding 50% within just a few days. Following this phase, user feedback will be instrumental in deploying ChatGPT to all customers with eligible connected vehicles.

A Collaborative Effort

This new service integrates technologies from SoundHound’s Chat AI platform alongside OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It’s important to note that ChatGPT version 3.5 utilizes data up until January 2022, and thus does not include information on events or data occurring after that date.

PEUGEOT’s integration of ChatGPT represents a significant advancement in creating a more interactive and engaging in-vehicle experience. The pilot program underscores PEUGEOT’s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction, setting the stage for a broader rollout of this technology shortly.

Several other car manufacturers are also integrating artificial intelligence into their vehicles, albeit in different ways compared to PEUGEOT’s ChatGPT implementation. Here are a few notable examples:

  1. Tesla: Tesla’s vehicles feature a built-in AI assistant that can understand natural language commands and control various car functions, such as navigation, climate control, and entertainment.
  2. Mercedes-Benz: Mercedes-Benz has introduced the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system, which uses AI to learn drivers’ preferences and provide personalized suggestions for navigation, entertainment, and comfort settings.
  3. BMW: BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant uses AI to interact with drivers using natural language, helping with navigation, finding parking spaces, and controlling in-car features.
  4. Audi: Audi’s AI technology focuses on driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warnings, and traffic jam assist, which use AI to improve safety and comfort.
  5. Nio: Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio has developed NOMI, an in-car AI assistant that can engage in voice interactions, control vehicle functions, and even take photos for the driver.

As AI technology continues to advance, more car manufacturers will likely integrate artificial intelligence into their vehicles to enhance the driving experience and improve safety features.
